Electives at the University of Toronto
The University of Toronto offers a wide range of electives for both undergraduate and postgraduate MD learners. The electives programs are administered through Undergraduate Medical Education (for MD learners, 3rd and 4th year Clerks) or Postgraduate Medical Education (for residents). All learners must apply through the University of Toronto in order to undertake an elective.
The UME Electives Program at the University of Toronto operates one of the largest medical Electives Program in Canada. Each year, UME places several categories of students including University of Toronto medical students during their Clerkship Elective block, visiting students from AFMC/AAMC accredited medical schools and visiting students from International FAIMER accredited medical students.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Program offers numerous electives in a broad range of specialties to visiting trainees. Trainees register as elective residents at the University of Toronto in order to satisfy a specified part of the requirements of the ongoing residency training program in which they are enrolled at their home institution. Elective training for residents is short-term training that does not exceed 6 months in duration.
